Mr. Lynn Davis's Birthday Party to Benefit City of Hope!
Recently we celebrated Mr. Lynn Davis's 50th Birthday. Below is article done by the Daily Journal Newspaper about the event.

|
- Lynn Davis didn't spend his 50th birthday amassing gifts from friends. Instead, the furniture bigwig spent it raising money for a group he has long considered one - City of Hope Cancer Center.

The president of Davis International was guest of honor at a birthday bash and auction benefiting the California-based research and treatment center. The goal: Raise $200,000 by night's end.

Final results weren't known at press time, but more than $150,000 had already gone to collection coffers before the first guest arrived at party headquarters, the Tupelo Country Club.

|
| The Hawaiian-themed event drew roughly 350 guests clad in tropical garb to feast on food and bid on items - a University of Mississippi jersey signed by Coach "O," a 2005 Polaris Ranger, and a weekend stay at Old Waverly among them. All of it to support City of Hope, the national charity of the
furniture industry. |

"They not only try to heal patients, but they heal the families," said Davis, who became involved with the center 15 years ago and serves on the charity's furniture board of directors. "They have places of worship all over the campus. It's truly amazing."

Since adopting it 40 years ago, the industry has raised $22 million for the center, said Sharon White- Kuo, the center's associate vice president of development. Another $1.5 million is expected to come by the end of the year, she said.

That money funds research to find more effective and less toxic cures to cancer than current methods of chemotherapy and radiation, which are often painful treatments sometimes too harsh for certain patients.

"We're working on manipulating the immune system to get the cancer instead," said Michael Jensen, a pediatric neurooncologist at City of Hope who traveled from California to speak at the party.

So far, that research has provided two effective cancer treatments currently on the market: Herceptin, for breast cancer; and Rituxan, from lymphoma.

Guests at the party lauded the effort, spearheaded by president of Badcock Furniture Don Marks, and said it felt good to party for a cause.

"We're going to bid on something, but we're not sure what yet," said guest Brandi Long, who perused items with husband Gentry. "It doesn't really matter what we get, I guess, because in the end it all goes to support City of Hope."
